$5 off + free shipping (excluding Framed Art Prints, Stretched Canvases and Throw Pillows with insert, which they basically never offer free shipping for) on my society6 shop this week. Use this link:

I just used the opportunity to get myself this iPhone case, so people will be all “where’d you get that?” and i’ll be all “from my own shop, nbd”
self promo!
my best selling item is still this weird little design I did from a 30Rock joke, if anyone is interested

I’m re-blogging this because I decided I want to share the story behind this piece.
I bought this old AE-1 program 35mm camera at a garage sale for 3 bucks on whim in the summer of 2010. It didn’t come with a lens but I bought one right before xmas because I had signed up for a black and white film class next quarter.
During xmas we happened to have all of my father’s family staying over at our house (first time ever, i believe). I’m an only child and thought it was great having the house full of people. Part of the reason everyone was over was because my grandfather (father’s side) was not long for the world and we all wanted one last xmas together with him.
My dad and his twin brother have always been artistic, my uncle especially, since he got a Bachelor of Fine Art from Pacific Northwest College of Art. I asked my uncle to take a few shots with the camera to test that everything was working okay. He took a photo of me not long after I had woken up (admittedly in the afternoon) and I based this drawing off of that photo. We didn’t know it at the time but he was to follow my grandfather about a year later. This may be the last picture he took of me, certainly the last photograph.

Here are the next five images of my “Body Study” photo set. These images were shot at the beginning of 2011 for an analog black and white photography class. I remember it was the first time I had made a cohesive body of work that I was really proud of.

The mounted originals will be in the regional photo drawers at Blue Sky beginning on the First Thursday art event of April, and will be there the rest of the year.

Here are the first five images of my “Body Study” photo set. These images were shot on 35mm black and white film using a Canon AE-1 program, developed and then printed by me. After they were printed they were stained using tea, and quotes were written on them in graphite.

the quotes are on feminist topics and have had a particular impact on me

Hey guys! I have a nice little announcement, I will have 10 photographic pieces I did in 2011 in the Blue Sky Gallery’s viewing drawers. I will share larger versions of the photos later on.

PORTLAND, Oregon - Blue Sky, the Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts, is pleased to announce the names of 65 artists selected for inclusion in its 2014 Pacific Northwest Photography Viewing Drawers Program.

Debuting on First Thursday, April 3, 2014 and coinciding with Portland Photo Month, each artist will be represented by 10 original photographic prints or objects from a single body of work in a dedicated archival, flat file drawer at Blue Sky through March 2015.

Jurors Michelle Dunn Marsh and Todd Johnson were equally impressed by the diversity of subject matter as well as the quality of technique apparent among this year’s cohort of artists.
